Frequently asked questions
Mindspace Psychology has a professional, trained and qualified team, experienced in handling various cases but also prioritizes friendliness, empathy, warmth and acceptance without judgment to all clients who come. We believe in working collaboratively with clients to help clients reach their full potential.
For your first session, you may be asked to come in early to fill out some forms if you haven’t already. It’s normal to feel a little anxious in the first few sessions as you may not know what to expect. Trust us and we will help and guide you through each step. Be assured that we will set things up and get things started so that everything runs smoothly. We are a team of professionals who are trained to lead each session in an effective way to help you get closer to your goals. The first session may seem like a Q&A with a lot of information being asked of you, usually involving a series of questions to get your history and background information. We will also orient you on the nature of our services (e.g., confidentiality issues, frequency of sessions, fees, etc.). If you feel that bringing a parent/partner/relative/friend with you would help facilitate the process better, please feel free to bring them along! We want your experience to be warm and welcoming. Once we have a complete history, recommendations will be made for assessment, therapy, or referral to another professional (who would be better suited to your individual needs). We will work together to create a treatment plan. This collaborative goal setting is important, because you and your psychologist need to plan to achieve your goals. At the end of your first session, your psychologist may also have suggestions for immediate action.
During therapy, our psychologists and therapists will work with you as a team to identify and change thought patterns and behaviors that are preventing you from feeling your best. In the process, you may learn new skills that create healthy or adaptive lifestyle changes. These new skills will help you cope with your current issues, as well as other challenges that may arise in the future. Our psychologists and therapists are highly trained and experienced. They also provide a safe and supportive environment for clients to share difficult issues with someone who is objective, neutral, and non-judgmental.
It is not a prerequisite to suffer from a mental health disorder to see a psychologist. While some may seek therapy to find out if they have a disorder or that they feel their problems have reduced their quality of life, others use therapy to improve their quality of life or to strive to become a better version of themselves.
The number of sessions needed varies from person to person. It varies depending on the individual’s needs and their commitment to therapy. It also depends on a variety of other factors, such as the amount of resources the individual has, whether they experience a crisis between sessions, their diagnosis, and their treatment goals. Your psychologist will work with you to assess how many sessions they feel are appropriate or sufficient. In considering current research, it suggests that: 13-18 psychological therapy sessions are needed for 50% of clients to fully recover and maintain change up to 6 months after therapy has finished. And 50% of clients need more than 20 sessions to reach their therapy goals In Indonesia, the average client only attends less than 6 sessions. This means that unfortunately most clients do not receive enough therapy to achieve long-term change and prevent relapse of their mental health problems (Turmanis, 2022).
In some cases it can be done, but in others it can only be done face to face. For cases that can be done online. We provide this option through a video platform that meets our professional standards. You can choose to have your session online for any reason.
Each clinical session will be 50 minutes long. The last 10 minutes of the hour block are reserved for your psychologist or therapist to write case notes, and to complete administrative matters such as payment and scheduling.
The fees charged depend on the case being handled, but the lowest fee is 350 thousand rupiah for 50 minutes/session.
Mindspace Psychology accepts payments via: cash/credit card/debit card and transfer.
